What Is the Trumpet Fish?

The Trumpet Fish is classified as Unusual rarity. It’s not exactly rare, but it’s not a guaranteed catch either. When reeling it in, you’ll notice the exclamation mark stays red, so you won’t know if you’ve snagged something Common, Uncommon, Rare, or Unusual until you actually pull it out of the water.

This fish plays an important role in your Sunstone Island Bestiary, so if you’re aiming for 100% completion, you’ll need to catch one. Additionally, the Angler NPC might request a Trumpet Fish as part of their fishing quests. Be aware, though, that the Angler NPC in The Depths asks for much rarer fish compared to the Angler on the surface.

Where to Find the Trumpet Fish

The Trumpet Fish hangs out in the waters around Sunstone Island, specifically near one of the smaller islands close to the main landmass. It’s a bit of a wanderer, so finding it can be tricky unless you’re equipped with a Fish Radar. This tool helps pinpoint the Trumpet Fish Abundance, making your search far more efficient.

Trumpet Fish Preferences

To increase your chances of catching the Trumpet Fish, it helps to know what it likes. Here’s a breakdown:

  • Season:
    The Trumpet Fish prefers Summer and Autumn. While it’s possible to catch it outside these seasons, you’ll have better luck during its favored times of year.

  • Time of Day:
    This fish is a daytime dweller, so make sure you’re casting your line while the sun’s still up. It’s far less likely to appear at night.

  • Weather:
    Good news! The Trumpet Fish doesn’t care whether it’s sunny, rainy, or foggy—it’ll show up in any weather condition.

  • Bait:
    The Trumpet Fish has a particular fondness for Shrimp as bait. Using this will significantly increase your chances of catching one. However, it’s worth noting that you can still catch a Trumpet Fish without bait—it just might take a bit longer.
